Premium Malawi

Premium Tobacco Malawi Limited (PTML) was established in March 2007.

PTML is a significant Tobacco Merchant in Malawi and has been growing its market share on an ongoing basis. PTML primarily deals in Air Cured Burley (ACB), but also in Flue Cured Virginia (FCV) and Dark Fired Cured (DFC) tobacco. All PTML’s tobacco is sourced using its Integrated Production System (IPS) through its small-scale contracted farmer base.

Constantly striving to maintain and improve responsible and efficient practices, PTML consistently supplies it customers with high-quality responsibly sourced tobacco products. The Premium Malawi facility features green and packed tobacco warehousing, offices and a clinic.

PTML focuses on Corporate & Social Responsibility through charitable and social activities within its areas of operation with an intensive focus on Good Labour Practice. The Agronomy Department and their field staff work very closely with all stakeholders towards the elimination of forced and/or child labour, in cooperation with the Elimination of Child Labour in Tobacco (ECLT) foundation based in Geneva, Switzerland. PTML also manages forestry concessions totalling 190 hectares of sustainable eucalyptus trees for supply the industry and other interested parties.

Tobacco Industry in Malawi

Tobacco growing started in the late 19th century with exports starting in the early 1900’s which was instrumental in establishing tobacco as the primary cash crop in Malawi.
